For leading the TNT KaTropa back to the Finals, Jayson Castro and Terrence Jones took home both individual awards for the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Castro took home his fifth Best Player of the Conference award. That win ties him Danny Ildefonso for second-most BPC awards. That also makes him the most decorated guard in terms of BPCs.
Through the semifinals, Castro was putting up all around numbers. He averaged averaged 14.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.
Castro bested Finals rival June Mar Fajardo with 1,077 total voting points. He was only third in Statistical Points (SPs) but bested the field through superior media votes and PBA votes. Fajardo came in second with 762 voting points. Rookies Bobby Ray Parks, CJ Perez and Robert Bolick were also in contention for their performance this conference.
Also taking home an individual award was Castro’s teammate, Jones. TNT’s import was a beast all conference long, putting up monster numbers of 30.2 ponts, 15.7 rebounds, 7.5 assists, 1.5 steals, and 2.8 blocks through the semifinals. He racked up multiple triple-doubles to highlight his performance this conference.
Jones beat out Justin Brownlee, Chris McCullough and Carl Montgomery for his first Best Import award. He swept all categories to pace all candidates with 1,254 voting points. Brownlee came in second with 882 voting points.
