Janine Pontejos bested a field of both men and women during the Shootout Competition in the 2018 FIBA 3×3 World Cup held in the Philippines. Today, she put on another shooting show in the Gilas conquest of Vanuatu. With their third win, the Women’s team swept the Qualifying Draw and took the top spot in Draw A.
Pontejos waxed hot from beyond the arc, dropping four shots from outside en route to a game high 11 points. Just like they in their record win against Samoa yesterday, Gilas stepped on the gas pedal and never looked back. Gilas easily won, 22-5.
With Pontejos leading the way, Gilas opened up an early six-point lead, 8-2. They continued to pour on the points, limiting Vanuatu to only three more points the rest of the way. Pontejos ended the game with a big triple, with three minutes still left on the clock.
Gilas now moves on to Pool C in the Group stage. They will face the third-seeded Japanese team and six seed Sri Lanka. The top two finishers of that group move on to the next stage.
