To say that “the future is bright for Philippines basketball” is a complete understatement. There is so much young talent in the country that this edition of SLAM’s All College Five was probably the hardest to complete. Not because there wasn’t a sufficient amount of player to have a quintet, but rather it was too hard to leave some people off the list (Nikko Ramos had to even make two lists. Talk about cheating.)
SLAM’s resident writers are back at it again and this time it is all about the young bucks in college. The ones that just busted on the scene and started taking names. I guess it is easy to guess the Kiefer Ravena, Bobby Ray Parks, Jeron Teng trio, but who gets to be in the list with three?
G – Roi Sumang, UE
G – Kiefer Ravena. ADMU
F – Jeron Teng, DLSU
F – Bobby Ray Parks Jr., NU
C – Karim Abdul, UST
This five right here should be right up there as one of the best ever rookie/sophomore teams. You have a back-to-back MVP in Ray Ray. Add a newbie who walks and acts like he’s the best Archer in Jeron Teng. Then, the most explosive guard in college basketball who’s armed with a very decent jumper in Roi Sumang. There is also that dude named Kiefer Ravena who has been showing people in his past few games what he is really capable of doing. Lastly, you have Karim Abdul, a 20 year old Cameroonian who plays and looks like he’s 30.
