Seniors ready: Alfren Gayosa is one versatile baller. Primarily used as a point guard when he entered high school, the former Staglet shifted to the SF position after he experienced a growth spurt somewhere along the way. Fortunately enough, his PG skills stuck with him. In one play in the SLAM Rising Stars scrimmage last March 3, Gayosa executed, arguably, the play of the day; as he dropped a nasty look-away dime to his big man who completed an and-1. He was playing the four position at that point in time and when that play happened a collective “oooohhhh” from the crowd was heard.
Gayosa has the size and versatility to play positions 1 thru 3 in college. That will be very valuable at the next level. And if he pushes thru with Baste, I see him contributing off the bench after a few games. The problem though, is that he will be playing behind C.J. Perez.
Needs work on: Jumpshot and range.
Projection: At best, a Pinoy version of Andrei Kirilenko. At worst, a college kid with good size who can’t get on the floor because he can’t put the ball in the hoop from deep.
