SBP unveils new look for Gilas Pilipinas

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has a new look.

In a press conference before Game 4 of the Philippine Cup Finals yesterday, the SBP unveiled the new logo of the federation and of Gilas Pilipinas as well as the new structure within the organization.

“After 10 years, we felt it was timely to refresh the SBP logo to give it a new look,” announced president Al Panlilio. “The bolder look signifies strength and our disciplined direction.”

In line with the new logo of the federation, the SBP also decided to create a new logo for Gilas Pilipinas.

“We’ve done a study with the help of Cignal and what showed in their research is Gilas Pilipinas is the most powerful brand and what we want to do is use the branding accross all pillars,” said Palilio.

The new look for the SBP goes beyond the new logo. The organization restructured all the programs beyond the Men’s Basketball team.

“Perlas will now be Gilas Pilipinas women’s, the Batang Gilas will be the Gilas Pilipinas youth, and the 3×3 the Gilas Pilipinas 3×3,” Panlilio revealed.

The restructuring was done to minimize confusion and ensure that all programs are headed in the right direction. That way the entire federation and all the programs under it can reach new heights.

Each of the programs now have a key figure heading it.

“These are the kind of people who can lead us. Personalities who have credibility and packed with great leadership skills,” Panlilio said about the program heads.

NLEX Coach Yeng Guiao will continue to head the Gilas Pilipinas Men’s program.. Heralded UAAP coach, Patrick Aquino of the NU Lady Bulldogs will be the lead for the Gilas Pilipinas Women’s program. Former Gilas Coach and current Ateneo Blue Eagles coach Tab Baldwin will spearhead the Gilas Pilipinas youth program. Working closely with Baldwin will be Coach Sandy Arespacochaga who will coach the FIBA U19 team in the World Cup and the FIBA U16 team in the Asian Championships. Coach Ronnie Magsanoc will continue to head with the Gilas 3×3 program.

Also part of the SBP are Coach Jong Uichico and UAAP Commissioner Rebo Saguisag. Uichico will work with the SBP Academy for coaches. He will ensure that coaches nationwide have proper development. Saguisag will lead the SBP Academy for officials. He will continue to educate officiating crews across the country with the goal of having Filipino officials as part of international tournaments.
