San Miguel’s last gas run gives them the series lead

The San Miguel Beermen looked like they were in danger of falling behind in the series. But when the buzzer sounded, the Beermen came out with the big win, toppling the TNT KaTropa, 99-94. San Miguel is now one win away from their second championship this season.

Chris McCullough came up big for the Beermen. He led the fourth quarter charge that got San Miguel back in the game. McCullough finished with 35 points, 22 rebounds and three blocks. June Mar Fajardo had a solid game with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Terrence Romeo came off the bench to contribute 22 points. Terrence Jones put up 35 points and 17 rebounds in the loss.

Jones, Troy Rosario and RR Pogoy teamed up for a strong third quarter run that pushed a four-point halftime lead up to 10. Don Trollano and Pogoy buried back-to-back triples to open the fourth quarter and put TNT up by 16 points. Jones followed that up with two straight defensive stops to highlight the run. It looked like TNT had full control of the game at that point.

The Beermen didn’t allow TNT to run away with the game so easily. Fajardo and McCoullough barrelled their way into the paint for six straight points to cut the advantage down to 10. Terrence Romeo capped the 9-0 run with a triple to bring the lead down to just seven. TNT kept dropping outside bombs but this time McCoullough had an answer. He scored seven straight points to power the Beermen offense and get the team to within three, heading into the final minutes.

In the final minute of the game, it was all McCoullough. He scored two freebies to cut the TNT lead down to just one. The Beermen forced several misses and a turnover in the next possession, leading to a go-ahead jumper from McCoullough with 28 seconds left. San Miguel forced another tough miss and McCoullough and Ross iced the game with free throws.
