Ross explodes to lift San Miguel over Rain or Shine, Rice and Castro team up to take down Meralco

The explosive duo of Glen Rice Jr. and Jayson Castro helped the TNT KaTropa get back on the winning track and deal a big blow to their sister team, the Meralco Bolts. Rice Jr. put in work early in the game and Castro’s clutch performance closed out the tough win.

Rice Jr. powered TNT in the first half with unstoppable forays in the paint. He scored 21 points in the first half and was the main reason for TNT’s big lead heading into the half. In the third quarter, the  Bolts found their rhythm. Allen Durham led the way as he powered his way into the paint. Meralco was able to cut a 17-point halftime deficit down to just two points. It was a nip and tuck affair from that point on.

The Bolts were within two points in the final two minutes of the game. Rice scored a big basket to bring the TNT lead back up to four. Castro played big on both ends of the floor to close the game. He got a big block to put a stop to Meralco’s comeback  and hit two clutch free throws to close out the game.

Rice scored 32 points while Castro added 27. Allen Durham was the lone bright spot for Meralco with 39 points and 24 rebounds.

San Miguel 103 – Rain or Shine 96

Chris Ross isn’t known as a high-scoring guard. He focuses more on defense, playmaking and all the other aspects of the game. But with San Miguel’s import Terik Bridgeman still playing poorly, Ross stepped up to tow the Beermen to a win.

The versatile guard flashed his scoring ability, putting up 27 points to lead San Miguel in scoring. Ross found his stroke early in the game. His outside shooting was one of the reasons for the double-digit lead built by the Beermen in the first half. Rain or Shine was undeterred as they went on a third quarter run to cut the lead down to a single possession.

With the Elasto Painters threatening, Ross carried the Beermen again. He slashed his way into the lane and found opportunities for the rest pf his team. San Miguel rebuilt their double-digit lead in the final period behind Ross attacking the hoop.

Ross had five treys, three assists and three steals. Lassiter also got big baskets with 22 points. Fajardo finally looked healthy with a 17-point, 14-rebound performance.
