The San Miguel Beermen and Gilas Pilipinas suffered a huge blow earlier today.
San Miguel Team Manager Gee Abanilla confirmed that June Mar Fajardo will be out for the next six weeks due to a stress fracture in his right shin. This was first reported by Noel Zarate of ESPN 5.

“He developed a stress fracture in his right shin and this would require him to rest for six weeks for him to be able to heal properly and completely,” said Abanilla in the report.
The four-time PBA MVP is a huge loss for the San Miguel Beermen. Given the initial six-week timetable for recovery, that puts Fajardo’s return most likely in October. He will miss a huge part of the on-going Governor’s Cup. Fajardo’s return will most likely be during the Playoffs if the Beermen advance that far.
His injury doesn’t just affect the Beermen. It also affects Gilas Pilipinas for the next leg of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Qualifers. Fajardo was one of the few players from the team that wasn’t suspended because of the incident in the game against Australia last July.
He was a shoo-in for the team Coach Yeng Guiao would out together for the games against Iran and Qatar this September. Guiao will now have to look for alternative options to fill Fajardo’s spot.
