REPORT: Jordan Clarkson approved to play in the Asian Games by the NBA

The Philippines’ Chef de Mission Richard Gomez announced on DZMM that Jordan Clarkson has been allowed by the NBA to play in the Asian Games.

In a live interview, Gomez said, “Talagang pinipilit namin na makalaro parin si Jordan Clarkson sa Asian Games. Binigyan na siya ng go signal para maglaro ng NBA.”

The Philippines also got the clearance from the Indonesian Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) as reported by Gerry Ramos of Spin.PH.

Veteran sports journalist Quinito Henson added a report that the NBA allowed their players to play in this year’s Asian Games. This is a one-time exception for this year’s tournament.

This report was confirmed by SBP President Al Panlilio as well.

The NBA also released a statement officially allowing Clarkson to play for the counrty.

This means Clarkson is finally going to play for the Philippines. This decision came after the NBA disallowed Clarkson from playing in the Asian Games. Because of that, Don Trollano also flew into Indonesia to replace Clarkson as the 12th man of the team.

The next thing that needs to be done is for Clarkson to fly out to Indonesia and join the National Team. They are deep in preparations for their first game against Kazakhstan on August 16. Clarkson will most likely play the next game game against China.

This is the first time Clarkson will be playing for the Philippines in international competition. In addition to joining the team, Clarkson will also be the flag bearer for the Philippines in the opening ceremonies of the Asian Games, as confirmed by Richard Gomez through Dyan Castillejo.
