Rain or Shine Elasto Painters 101 – Magnolia Hotshots 95

The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters steadied the ship at the right time as they survive a last gasp run by the Magnolia Hotshots to improve their record to 5-3. Magnolia suffers it’s second straight loss to fall to a 6-3 record.

The Elasto Painters looked sharp from the starting whistle. Raymond Almazan shook off his slump and led his team to a 9-0 lead, scoring the first seven points in the game. From there, They slowly pulled away from the Hotshots in the second quarter. Magnolia tied the score early in the second period but Rain or Shine relied on a total team attack to build their lead up. Gabe Norwood and Jewel Ponferada found their range in a 7-1 run to give the team an eight-point lead. Ponferada hit a trey before the quarter ended to give the Elasto Painters a 12-point lead heading into halftime.

Rain or Shine continued their onslaught to start the third period. James Yap, Chris Tiu and Ed Daquioag teamed-up up on a 13-0 run to give the Elasto Painters their biggest lead of the game at 21 points. Just when the game was seemingly out of reach, the Hotshots turn on their offense. They concentrate their attack inside with Ian Sangalang and Aldrech Ramos leading the way. They close the third quarter on a 20-8 run to cut the lead down to just 11 points.

The Hotshots continued to make a run in the final period. Ramos scored on a jumper and a free throw to cut the lead down to 10 points with three minutes left in the game. Ramos and Jalalon scored five straight points to cut the lead down to just seven points. But the Hotshots couldn’t capitalize on their remaining possessions. Jalalon and Mark Barroca missed their shots to cut the lead further down and Rain or Shine escaped with the win.
