Rain or Shine upsets Ginebra to end their four-game losing streak

Rain or Shine Elasto Painters 104 – Barangay Ginebra 97

The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters ended their four-game losing streak to start the season in style. They took down league-leading Barangay Ginebra to earn their first win of the conference. It was a balanced effort from the entire team. Terrence Watson led the way with 29 points, 19 rebounds and six blocks. Jewel Ponferada led the locals with 18 points and five rebounds.

Rain or Shine took control of the game in the the third quarter. Up by only four points, Watson and Maverick Ahanmisi teamed up to spark a 14-0 run to build a giant double-digit lead. The two scored the first seven points of that run by fiercely attacking the paint. Beau Belga added a three-pointer before Ahanmisi capped off the blast with another score inside. Watson’s trey after a Ginebra basket gave the Elasto Painters their biggest lead of the game at 19.

The Elasto Painters were still ahead by 15 points when Ginebra tried to steal the game with a run. The Barangay started hitting their outside shots. Japeth Aguilar, LA Tenorio and Justin Brownlee teamed up to lead Ginebra to within four points with three minutes left in the game. Unfortunately, that was their last stand. Gabe Norwood nailed a three-pointer to stop Rain or Shine’s bleeding and the defense held steady until the end.
