LPU Pirates 95 – EAC Generals 75
The Lyceum Pirates continue to roll in Season 94. They earn their 12th straight win of the season with a blowout win over the EAC Generals. CJ Perez led the Pirates with his usual numbers. He finished with 19 points, five rebounds and three steals. Mike Nzeusseu scored 18 points and grabbed seven boards. Jaycee Marcelino added 15 points, seven assists and four steals.
The Pirates needed a big run in the latter part of the game to get rid of the pesky Generals. EAC stuck with Lyceum for most of the game. Behind the collective efforts of Jerome Garcia and Hamadou Laminou, the Generals were only down one point to the top-seeded team heading into the halftime break. EAC was still within just four points late in the third quarter when Lyceum made their run.
Ralph Tansingco nailed back-to-back three-pointers to end the third quarter to give Lyceum an eight-point lead. Nzeusseu led the Lyceum attack in the fourth period. His turnaround jumper midway through the final quarter gave his team a double-digit lead. He then assisted on a Spencer Pretta trey to extend the lead. Lyceum forced several turnovers in the final minutes as they ran away with the win. The Pirates forced a whopping 38 turnovers which they converted into 38 points. Their pressure defense was able to overcome the hot shooting from the General.
MU Cardinals 81 – JRU Heavy Bombers 79
Laurenz Victoria came up big for the Mapua Cardinals in the end game. He nailed the go-ahead basket that was the deciding factor in the win over the JRU Heavy Bombers. The Cardinals take home their third win of the season and send the Heavy Bombers to the bottom of the standings.
With seven seconds left in the game, Victoria had the ball on the right wing. He called for a clear out of the right side and made his move with five seconds left in the game. Victoria drove hard against Jed Mendoza and a step before the getting into the paint, he stopped immediately. The Cardinal guard faked a shot before spinning to his right. Victoria then launched a one-legged fadeaway jumper over the outstretched arms of Mendoza. The shot fell in, giving Mapua a two-point lead with 1.5 seconds left. JRU’s last second attempt missed and Mapua escaped with the win.
The Cardinals had to overcome a searing first half run by Mendoza. JRU’s main gun scored 19 of his 22 points in the first two quarters to power JRU ahead by six, 42-36, heading into the break. Mapua tightened up their defense and got everyone involved in the third quarter to steal the lead away from JRU. They entered the fourth period with a five-point lead which they were able to protect. Victoria led the Cardinals with 17 points. Rookie Warren Bonificio added 13 points.
