Pirates come up clutch in Perps’ home court

The Lyceum Pirates found a way to win it in the end game. They overcame a home court crowd and a hard-fighting Perpetual Altas team to win 87-85. Lyceum jumps up to 5-1, right below top two teams, San Beda and Benilde. Perpetual falls to 2-4.

Mike Nzeusseu led the Pirates with 18 points, 10 rebounds and the eventual game-winner. Raymar Caduyac and JC Marcelino added 14 and 13 respectively. JV Marcelino had nine points, four assists and the game-saving block while Jayson David scored seven and assisted on Nzeusseu’s game-winner. Edgar Charcos led the way with 16 points for Perpetual.

The Pirates held a two-possession lead over the Altas with less than three minutes remaining in the game. Backed by their home crowd, the Altas refused to let go of the game. Edgar Charcos tied the game at 85 with a booming triple at the 2:36 mark of the game.

The game stayed knotted until the final moments of the game. With five seconds left, the Pirates were looking for the go-ahead bucket. David got the ball on the left baseline and drove to the hoop. His lane was closed off so he passed to Nzeusseu at the last moment for the big basket inside with 0.7 seconds left.

The Altas had a chance to win but Charcos’ game-winning attempt was rejected by JV to secure the win for Lyceum.
