Jeric Fortuna is coming home.
The PBA on Tuesday approved the trade sending Fortuna to the San Miguel Beermen, with the Barako Bull Energy Cola getting Paolo Hubalde in return.
Uh, yeah, that’s the trade. Seriously.
Fortuna used to ply his trade with the San Miguel Beermen in the ABL, prior to declaring for the PBA Draft.
Drafted #14 overall last season, Fortuna has been having a strong sophomore season on a winless Barako Bull team, norming 7.25 points, 2.25 rebounds, and 1.50 assists.
Hubalde on the other hand has been in the league since 2005, having last been a consistent starter for the first incarnation of the Shopinas.com Clickers. Getting just spot minutes with San Miguel Beer, he’s putting up 2.25 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.75 assists.
Barako Bull has been involved in numerous trades with San Miguel Beer. Most recently, the former traded away the third overall pick (who became Ronald Pascual) in the 2014 PBA Draft to SMB for a package of guards.
While on paper, Fortuna is a straight-up better player than Hubalde, it will be interesting to see how they use him. With Sol Mercado and Chris Ross running the point for Coach Leo Austria, the former UST point guard might find himself riding the pine unless an injury happens.
