Three things that happened in the NBA today
1. Joel Embiid denies Rihanna
Joel Embiid was named an All-Star for the first time in his career today. To celebrate, Embiid dominated the Boston Celtics frontline in their game today. He put an All-Star effort to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to a win over the East’s best team. Embiis scored 26 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, dished six dimes and blocked two shots in an all-around effort.
But Embiid’s biggest block came after the game. Before we get to that, let’s go back to 2014 when Embiid was a rookie and he had the guts to tweet Rihanna, asking her out.
Hey baby holla at me!! Dinner at giorgios at 930pm @rihanna????
— Joel Embiid (@JoelEmbiid) July 22, 2014
Unfortunately for Embiid, Rihanna turned him down. She reportedly told the rookie to come back when he was an “All-Star”.
Well, today, the rookie is now an All-Star. Embiid fans have begun flooding Rihanna’s feed and tagging the big man. This was meant as a reminder for the pop star to hold on to her end of the bargain. So far, there has been no word on whether Rihanna will go out with Embiid or not.
After their game, Embiid was asked about his potential date with Rihanna now that he’s an All-Star. Here’s his savage block.
Trust the process, always.
2. Cavaliers finally (barely) end their losing streak
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been mired in a four game losing streak. It’s been quite a downward spiral for the Cavs since their run to the top late last year. They’ve been blown out twice and suffered an epic collapse. Their latest loss was a big one against their rivals, the Golden State Warriors.
Today was supposed to be a feel-good bounce-back game against the lowly Orlando Magic. The Cavs held a big lead midway through the game. But they closed the game on a bad note. They almost had another epic collapse and barely won the game against the Magic.
Isaiah Thomas led all scorers with 21 points as he continues to bounce back from a hip injury that sidelined him to start the season.
3. Eric Gordon leads the Rockets over the running Timberwolves
James Harden returned from injury at the right time. The Houston Rockets were going up against the Minnesota Timberwolves who have won five of their last six games. But it wasn’t Harden that did the damage in the blowout win.
Eric Gordon came off the bench to lead the Rockets in scoring. He exploded for 30 points as the Timberwolves defense didn’t have an answer for him or the rest of the Houston offense.
