June Mar Fajardo adds a coveted trophy to his already full hardware shelf.
Before Game 4 of the Finals, the PBA handed out the Best Player of the Conference (BPC) and Best Import of the Conference for the 2018 Commissioner’s Cup. Fajardo took home the Best Player trophy, his seventh overall. This is the first Commissioner’s Cup BPC for the Kraken.
Fajardo averaged 19.6 points on 59% shooting and 11.4 rebounds. He played all 11 games and averaged nearly 32 minutes per game. Fajardo’s consistency helped the San Miguel Beermen bounce back from a rough start and make it all the way back to the Finals to defend their crown.
Fajardo dominated the voting with 1,153 points. Vic Manuel who led the Alaska Aces to a Semifinals appearance came in second with 766 points. Stanley Pringle, Sean Anthony and Chris Newsome round out the top five in voting.
Justin Brownlee’s dominance didn’t go unnoticed. He took home his first Best Import award for his Commissioner’s Cup performance.
Brownlee led Barangay Ginebra in several statistical categories. He was a consistent triple-double threat averaging 26.3 points, 12.9 rebounds and 6.4 assists. His arrival midway through the conference energized Ginebra as they went on an eight-game winning streak to make it to the Finals.
Brownlee ran away with the award with 1,209 points. San Miguel’s Renaldo Balkman came in second in voting with 858 points. Reggie Johnson and Diamon Simpson were the other players considered for the award.
