Jeo Ambohot and Rey Nambatac lift Letran up to the next level of the KO stepladder

CSJL Knights 70 – AU Chiefs 68, CSJL advances to the next level of the KO stepladder

Rey Nambatac did the heavy lifting and Jeo Ambohot saved the day as the Letran Knights outlasted the Arellano Chiefs. The Knights eliminated the Chiefs and move on to the next phase of the knockout stepladder series.

Nambatac did the heavy lifting for most of the game as he scored 18 points in the middle quarters to keep Letran ahead. Rence Alcoriza and Levi Dela Cruz did their best to offset Nambatac’s production. Alcoriza exploded for 13 points in the final period as he led Arellano back from a five-point deficit into a one-point lead with less than 10 seconds left on the clock. With the game on the line, Coach Jeff Napa went back to his superstar.

Nambatac got the ball near the top of the key. He immediately attacked the Arellano defense and got into the lane where he was met by Lervin Flores. Nambatac floated up a shot over the outstretched arms of Flores. The ball hit the rim and rolled out. Ambohot, who was waiting for a pass from Nambatac during the play, got near the hoop, untouched. He then corralled the miss and put it back in the hoop to give Letran a one-point lead. Arellano couldn’t convert in the other end and Letran held on to the close win.

Nambatac led the Knights in scoring and rebounding with 25 points and nine rebounds. Ambohot scored only four points but he grabbed seven boards and blocked two shots. Dela Cruz scored 18 while Alcoriza finished with 16 for the Chiefs.

Letran faces the San Sebastian Stags in a knockout game to determine who advances to face the third-seeded JRU Heavy Bombers.
