Garcia’s game-winner lifts Phoenix, Rosario’s dagger completes TNT comeback

The Phoenix Fuel Masters completed a clutch play in the dying seconds of the game to win over the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 86-84. The Fuel Masters get their second win in six tries while the Elasto Painters drop to 1-4.

RR Garcia had a chance to seal the win for the Fuel Masters when he trooped to the line with less than 20 seconds left in the game and his team up by four. Garcia missed both free throws giving the Elasto Painters a chance to tie the game. That’s a chance they took as Javee Mocon drove to the paint and got a jumper to fall tying the game at 84.

The Fuel Masters had 1.5 seconds left to work to get the win. They inbounded the ball to Eugene Phelps in the post. The big man was quickly swarmed by defenders. But he quickly whipped a pass to Garcia who cut to the hoop. Garcia made up for his earlier misses by scoring on the game-winning short stab.

Phelps was a beast in the game. He finished with 19 points, 20 rebounds and seven assists. Garcia helped him out with 14 points and two three-pointers. RJ Jazul had 15 points and three triples of his own.

In the first game of the day, the TNT KaTropa pulled off a comeback in the fourth quarter to beat the NorthPort Batang Pier, 103-100. TNT gets their fifth straight win of the conference while NorthPort falls to 1-4.

With close to 9 minutes left in the game, NorthPort stunned TNT by taking a nine point lead in the game. It looked like the Batang Pier were primed to upset the undefeated KaTropa. TNT refused to let their undefeated record fall. McDaniels and Rosario teamed up to lead the KaTropa to a 10-2 counterattack that put them to within one point of the Batang Pier. NorthPort still held on to the lead for most of the period but TNT was already in striking distance.

The KaTropa made their move in the final minute. Rosario hit a big three-pointer with a little over a minute left in the game to push TNT ahead by one point. TNT was able to hold off any buckets from NorthPort after that. Rosario sealed the win for the KaTropa by nailing two freebies in the dying moments of the game.
