Ginebra lands Devance, Star adds Pascuals, Barako, GlobalPort shuffle the deck

PBA - Purefoods vs Ginebra - June 7, 2015 - 2

A pair of San Miguel Corporation squads continue to strengthen their rosters ahead of the opening of the 2015-16 PBA season, while Barako Bull and GlobalPort continue to search for an answer at center, in the wake of a four-team trade.

The approved transaction begins with Ginebra sending Dorian Pena to GlobalPort, in exchange for Prince Caperal. Meanwhile, Star deals Joe Devance to Barako Bull, taking back 2014 first round pick Jake Pascual, and the recently-acquired Ronald Pascual, a draft batchmate who was originally with the San Miguel Beermen.

The Energy then sent Devance to Barangay Ginebra, with Mac Baracael and Caperal going back the other way.

Devance, a Tim Cone favorite, who was also with the triangle offense teacher when he was the head coach of the Alaska Aces, last season normed 10.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 33 games.

Jake Pascual in his first season in the PBA was very productive, putting up 6.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists in just 23.6 minutes. He too played in 33 games.

Ronald Pascual meanwhile, despite SMB trading up to draft him, appeared in just 13 games, with averages of 4.0 points and 2.2 rebounds. Heading to Star though will reunite him with San Sebastian teammate, center Ian Sangalang.

GlobalPort will play next season with another revamped frontline, adding Pena to holdovers Doug Kramer and Billy Mamaril, the returning Jay Washington, and another offseason trade product Jervy Cruz. In 19 games with Barako and Ginebra last season, Pena normed 11.6 minutes, 0.3 points and 2.3 rebounds.

Baracael saw his playing time drop off a cliff under former Ginebra head coach Frankie Lim, but all-in-all last season, he normed 21.2 minutes, 7.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists. He was more well known for his shooting though, connecting on 35.8 percent of his triples in 2014-15.

Another player who will likely see more minutes as a result of the deal, Caperal was an end-of-the-bench figure for GlobalPort, seeing action in just 14 games with averages of 1.4 points and 0.8 rebounds.
