Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 92 – Shabab Al Ahli UAE 57
Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas finally got back to its winning ways, dominating Dubai club Shabab Al Ahli in the 5th-8th classification phase of the 2017 FIBA Asia Champions Cup on Friday.
Chooks didn’t have a tough time pulling away as Al Ahli was just a one-man show, with Qais Al Shabebi scoring 28 points. Al Ahli didn’t have much movement on offense, and Isaiah Austin’s presence protected the paint well.
Al Shabebi needed 35 attempts for his total, which is almost half of Al Ahli’s field goal attempts. He added 13 boards.
On offense, Chooks was aggressive in getting to the basket and picking their spots. They shot above 59 percent from inside the arc.
Kiefer Ravena was at his efficient best in the game, top scoring for the Philippine side with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting. He was responsible for Chooks’ second quarter run where they outscored Al Ahli, 23-13.
Chooks didn’t stop playing well even though the outcome was already decided, running away in the fourth quarter as they outscored Al Ahli 28-12 in the final frame.
Ravena got plenty of support, as four others scored in double-digits. Almond Vosotros had 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting while LA Revilla was perfect from the floor for 12 markers. Austin chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds.
Chooks had a 53-37 advantage in rebounding and a 17-8 gap in assists.
The Philippines moves to the fifth place game where they will have a rematch with Thailand’s Mono Vampire Basketball Club.
