The Adamson Falcons used a late run to pull away from the feisty UE Red Warriors. The Red Warriors were aiming to stretch their win streak to three games against the Falcons. But the Falcons did enough in the end game to take home the win.
Powered by Alvin Pasaol, UE was within striking distance all game long. They were only down by seven heading into the final period and even got to as close as five points in the final four minutes of the game. With the Red Warriors threatening to make the Falcons their latest upset victims, Sean Manganti and Jerrick Ahanmisi went on a 7-1 run to close the game. Manganti hit a corner triple to extend the Adamson lead. Then Ahanmisi hit a midrange jumper to add to the run. Manganti closed the game when he stretched up high for a lob and then in one motion, landed and hit a nice reverse layup. UE could only muster a free throw during that stretch.
Ahanmisi led the Falcons in scoring with 14 point, Manganti scored 10, with half coming in that crucial run. Papi Sarr dominated the inside with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Pasaol scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the loss.
ADMU Blue Eagles 85 – NU Bulldogs 72
The NU Buldogs were raring to end their losing streak and take down the unbeaten Ateneo Blue Eagles at the same time. They came out with a ton of energy to take Ateneo by surprise in the first half. Unfortunately, they ran out of steam in the end, allowing the Blue Eagles to take over the game. Ateneo, a team used to being ahead early in the game was shellshocked when the Bulldogs jumped out to an early six-point lead. Jayjay Alejandro scored 16 first half points as he led NU’s high-octane running attack. To make matters worse, Ateneo’s leader, Thirdy Ravena was having a subpar game with only three points in the first half. That all changed in the second half. Gian Mamuyac came into the game and gave Ateneo a much-needed shot of energy. Mamuyac and Ravena took turns matching up against Alejandro. The rest of the Blue Eagles locked down on defense and prevented NU from getting out on the break. Ateneo scored 18 points in the fourth quarter as they found their rhythm on offense, They also limited NU to just seven points as they pulled away in the final minutes of the game. Ravena finished with 15 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Mamuyac scored eight points off the bench. Alejandro led NU with 22 points in the loss.
